We meet in the morning at The Apex Hotel Conference Centre, Charles Street, Bath, BA1 1HX. After we’ve had a chance to have a drink and catch up from 10am, our meeting begins at 10.30am. *Please note that on Sunday 8th July our 10:30am service will be at Freedom House, Bath.
We’re a community of everyday people, who are journeying together in wanting to understand Jesus and His ways, works and words and learning how we can live a life where we try and follow Him every day.
Our meetings have live bands who help us use words to express our gratitude to God- we talk about this as a way of worshipping God. We also have teaching that is relevant to our daily lives and applies the Bible so we can understand how God wants us to live. We always make sure that we have time where people who want to be prayed for can have that and we love to see miracles and the Holy Spirit connecting with people. There are so many stories of God transforming people!
We love to chat and connect with each other and we look forward to seeing what God has planned for us- although in the morning meetings we stick to a fairly regular structure due to the amount of kids in kids club who can only enjoy that much fun for an hour or two before needing lunch!
Our leaders and founders are Betsy and Andrew who you'll probably see at the front of church. They work with several teams of leaders (core leaders, department leaders and cluster leaders) who lead the church with them and together they always love to meet people, so do say hi and come along to a 'belong' meeting to find out what makes Freedom tick and the story of how it began, our journey so far and the exciting vision for the future.
When arriving to The Apex, please use the conference entrance which is located on Charles Street. If you arrive by car, you will be able to find parking on the surrounding streets and in nearby car parks. Disabled badge holders are able to park on James Street. Our host team will be posted at the conference entrance to offer assistance if needed! Why not take advantage of being in town and get a delicious drink from one of the wide variety of coffee shops on your way to church or purchase a drink in the conference foyer.
As you come into the building, a member of the Host Team will welcome you and give you a welcome bag full of chocolate and useful information about church.
Our meeting takes place at 10.30am. A steward will help you to find a seat. During the service, our kids and youth have their own groups to go to- see below for more information. Once signed in, we have a special security team making sure the kids are safe so you can relax and enjoy the main service. If you have little ones who are too little to be left, you're welcome to use our special baby corner at the back of the room.
Check out our Sales and Information Desk for resources and further information about Freedom Centre UK either before or after the service. Connect cards are available to fill in if you'd like us to contact you further. If you want to become a part of the church then come along to 'Belong 1' and find out more about how the church as started, what the main vision and values are and see if you want to join the Freedom mission!
We are committed to the youngest in the church and have fantastic fun groups for them to go to. When you arrive a steward will show you where to go and connect you with another family to help you navigate your way through the systems we have for kids to go to their age group. As a local church here in the heart of Bath, we are a community of everyday people in which Jesus is central to all we do. We are journeying together in understanding Him and His ways, works and words and learning how we can live a life where we follow Him. We want people to find life, hope and purpose. We believe that Jesus is life transforming and church is the hope of the world.
For more information about who we are, why not take a look at our 'Welcome to Church' booklet, found here
We'd love you to be part of the story!
Andrew and Betsy moved to Bath as a couple to start a new Church specifically to help those who don't know Jesus, those who have walked away from Jesus and/or Church, and to see God grow a strong and healthy Church. They wanted it to be a church that would bring hope and life to the cities of Bath and Bristol. After praying and waiting, things started to develop one week when 6 different people who didn't know each other all rang up to find out if a new Church might be starting in Bath...what a God coincidence!
Betsy and Andrew moved to Bath with the purpose of getting a team in order to launch the new church plant in 2000.
Initially, we met on Sunday afternoons in Claverton Down, but by March 2000 we had moved to Haysfield Lower School in Oldfield Park and we began meeting on Sunday mornings instead. From September 2000, the Church grew rapidly to having many diverse Small Groups meeting mid week, along with exciting and flourishing children's and youth groups catering for ages 0-18 years.
The greatest influence on Freedom Centre UK are the teachings of John Wimber. Betsy and Andrew were very involved and influenced by the things that Wimber taught, said and did and you'll see that in the life of the church.
We bought a building in 2005 which housed our offices, a large meeting room, art studio, an outdoor decking area, and room for all our community projects. We were based in this centre on Roseberry Road until June 2011 when we moved into Freedom House. This building on Lower Bristol Road has been renovated and is now home to our offices, youth rooms, an art studio, and kids rooms which also serves another charity called the Trauma Recovery Centre. We are starting the building of our auditorium September 2018.
Friends on the journey..
We have strong friendships with other church leaders in the local area, the UK and overseas. We have been part of the Hillsong network for many years and appreciate their input on our journey.
We have lots of exciting plans and dreams for the future, as we see people connect with Jesus, as we plant new churches, birth new projects, speak up for justice, and see hope for the hopeless. We are excited as we hear the sound of what God is doing and we are amazed at how He is positioning us to see more and more people set free to know Him and experience His Freedom. We are Freedom, and we can't wait to see what God has planned for us as He builds His Church.
